Creek Snapshot: June 7/09

I haven't had much time to get the camera out this week, but here is a quick snapshot of the creek, taken from the same spot as always; the balcony outside my office. This is how it looks pretty much from the end of May up to September; the water level drops and the grasses grow above the level of the water. The frogs are starting to be vocal, and we've seen bitterns and blue herons busy looking for a meal. The muskrat is seen daily, swimming easily through the grasses. Last night Pete and I worked until around 8 pm. I mowed the lower yard (pictured) and he was removing a dead pine tree that had snapped off during a wind storm. When we finally had a chance to sit and eat dinner, we were visited by three deer; who were sniffing the grass clippings and then nibbled on basswood saplings by the creek edge.

Hi Miguel,
It is a busy time around here; our growing season is so short, but when it starts everything goes wild! We could use a full time grounds keeper, but instead we do our best and are constantly trying to keep it from looking to shaggy...sort of like the dogs!

Paris' pups are at the same stage! It has been so lovely up to now!

Hi Kim,
Fox Hill must keep you and Pete very busy and let's not forget the lovely Paris' pups. You woudln't believe but you and Laureate Shelties are very famous among Sheltie lovers in Korea! One girl told me your Shelties are to die for! I told her I had an honor of meeting the lovely bunch. I think she turned green right in front of my eyes.

Julie: Thanks for the laugh of the day! That is so funny. I hope you are doing well and adjusting to life in Korea. I took pictures of the babies just for you to see...
