Creek November 4th

This is the pin oak that I was talking about in my last post.  We love trees and planted it and a red oak seven years ago after Hannah and Sparkle passed away.  Its trunk is wrapped up for beaver protection.
The two sisters
The very shy heron has been in the creek daily.  The fishing must be good as most of the other birds are heading south.

I have not heard of a Pin Oak. Such a lovely color. Is that the fall color or will it always be that vibrant shade?

We have special places on our property where our dear pups and kitties have been buried. There isn't a time that I don't walk near their spot that I don't see them running and having the happy pup look. Always in our hearts...I like your idea of planting a special tree.

This is the fall colour. The leaves are green in the summer. The interesting thing about this tree is the dead leaves will cling to the tree and drop off slowly over winter. It is sort of nice to look out on a freezing cold day and see leaves on a tree...:-)
You likely have many more ornamental trees in CA than we do here in Ontario. But the fall colour of this tree makes it a favourite.

We lost two girls from our first litter a week apart the Fall of 2004. To cope with the loss we planted trees. We planted for a month, and when we were done we had planted 33 trees and shrubs. Not planned, but it ended up being one tree for every year of their lives. Kind of freaky...:-)

Cheers, Kim

Touching story kim! I love trees also. I planted a Swamp Oak and is the same with the leaves, they cling in a deep red color till winter. I plant red roses where buried our special friends.

I can't believe it's been 7 whole years .... :(

I can't believe it has been 7 years either. Hannah is still very much present here. She is my screen saver. We have those larger than life paintings of her in our living room. Sparkle too...we see essences of both girls in some of our current dogs. :-)

Wicked and Ellen; it is lovely to have a special spot for your departed pets. I have friends who have stones with the dogs names on in a special garden.
